Thursdays Feb - March, 2012 10:00-4:00 Pastel/Studio all skill levels are welcome $90 per day.
"Into the Light"
Into the light describes my technique for pastel painting. We will begin with our darkest darks, either by paper color or pastel value or washes on paper. We will then move toward our light with softer lighter pastels. I will begin class with a short discussion then a brief demo. I believe we will stay in the studio as I prefer to paint from my photos in comfort. Plein Aire we will save for another time...All skill levels are welcome as I enjoy working individually anyway. Bring your own photos (preferably, ones you have taken) to paint from; we will use them as a jumping off point so we don’t become slaves to our photos. Think about composition and contrast in your photos. I will discuss basic drawing, shape, values, edges and composition as we attempt to create the illusion of 3-D on a 2-D surface. We will practice looking at our world (sky, water, wood, stone, grass and clouds) then attempt to express our concepts on paper. We will create some great (or at least some great practice) paintings. Whether or not you have ever used pastels, you will enjoy their immediacy and vibrant colors as you draw and paint at the same time. Beauty is all around us, so let’s enjoy!
