Box Art: Working in 3 Dimensions
The instructor has spent the last several years working in 3
dimensional techniques, using boxes, as well as 2 dimensional surfaces built up
into 3-D textures and images. This is a unique art form that is both fun and
personal in its expression. The workshop will focus on a variety of materials
and techniques in order to create artwork placed in boxes, as well as ways of
making imagery on the box surface itself. This can include drawing, painting,
or collage using photos and 3-D objects. Experimentation is encouraged. Trying
something you’ve never done before is part of the fun of creating Box Art. No experience is necessary.
SUPPLIES:
1) students are requested to bring a BOX on the
first day of class. Boxes can be made from a variety of materials, including
wood, metal, plastic, or heavy cardboard. Michael’s is a good resource to purchase boxes. If the box is purchased, try finding one that is as unfinished as possible. Remember, you’ll be decorating this box during the workshop.
2) ‘found objects’ (the instructors preference) SMALL 3-D OBJECTS of your choice, handmade, or purchased.
3) any COLLAGE MATERIALS you may want to incorporate. Photos, magazine clippings, papers etc.
4) If you want to create an small original piece of ART to incorporate, please bring in any supplies that you will need.
