| Katherine
was born and lived in New York City
until her marriage took her traveling around the country. She and her husband settled in California where they
raised two children.
Kathy
started drawing and painting at the age of 12.
Her career started not in illustration as was her goal, but as a print
production manager moving on to graphic design, and eventually art
direction. Her interest in emerging
technologies enabled her to develop a wide range of skills with the use of graphic
design software.
After
retiring from the world of advertising, she pursued her first
love: fine art. In search of her own style and technique,
Kathy continued studying by attending workshops with a variety of
artists. She has explored the realistic
watercolors of Robert Reynolds, the very controlled but loose Chinese
watercolor painting of Lian Quan Zhen, the broad bold strokes of Dale Laitinen,
and on to landscapes in oil with Lois Griffel, David Simons & Jean Ranstrom. After three years of running her own workshop center and gallery Kathy is now back to painting.
Artists Statement
I love to paint and hope the viewer enjoys it as much as I have painting it. With my flower and still life painting I like to look into the simple objects and paint their character. Larger than life gives me the opportunity to explore the detail. My landscapes can be more impressionistic with the colors but still representational from different locations. Artist are always learning, as you can see my portfolio reflects the changes that happen with exposure to new ideas and places.
